New York, Chicago and San Diego finished Wild Card Series sweeps, while Philadelphia stayed alive with an extra-inning comeback.
The MLB playoff scores from September 30, 2026 sent three teams into the Division Series. First, the Chicago White Sox eliminated Houston. Then, the New York Yankees overwhelmed Boston, while the San Diego Padres closed out the Chicago Cubs. Philadelphia, however, extended its season by beating Atlanta in 10 innings.

Philadelphia Phillies 4, Atlanta Braves 3 — 10 innings
Alec Bohm hit an opposite-field home run with two outs in the 10th inning, lifting Philadelphia past Atlanta and forcing a winner-take-all Game 3 in the National League Wild Card Series.
Initially, the Phillies led on Bryce Harper’s first-inning RBI single. Atlanta answered quickly, then moved ahead 3-1 in the seventh on Drake Baldwin’s double and Matt Olson’s sacrifice fly. However, Kyle Schwarber and Harper hit back-to-back solo homers in the eighth to erase the deficit.
After Bohm broke the tie, Andrew Painter finished a three-inning relief appearance by striking out pinch hitter Dominic Smith with two runners aboard. Chicago White Sox 7, Houston Astros 3
Chase Meidroth’s three-run homer in the sixth inning finished Houston’s comeback bid and sent the White Sox into the American League Division Series with a two-game sweep.
Chicago immediately scored four runs in the first, taking advantage of shaky Astros defense and knocking Hunter Brown out before the inning ended. Houston then responded with solo homers from Jeremy Peña, Cam Smith and Jose Altuve. As a result, the Astros drew within 4-3 after four innings.
Nevertheless, Anthony Kay and Huascar Brazobán escaped Houston’s fifth-inning threat. Meidroth followed with the decisive drive off Bryan Abreu, restoring a four-run cushion. New York Yankees 9, Boston Red Sox 2
Cody Bellinger drove in four runs, Max Fried supplied six strong innings and the Yankees completed a two-game sweep of their longtime rivals.
Luis GarcÃa Jr. opened the scoring with a fourth-inning homer. One inning later, Bellinger added an RBI single. Boston finally broke through on Willson Contreras’ solo homer in the sixth, but New York answered emphatically.
Specifically, the Yankees scored six times in the bottom of the sixth. George Lombard Jr., Austin Wells and Ryan McMahon drove in runs before Bellinger capped the rally with a three-run homer. San Diego Padres 4, Chicago Cubs 1
Pinch hitter Gavin Sheets launched a two-run homer, and five San Diego relievers combined for 5â…” scoreless innings as the Padres completed their sweep.
Chicago scored first against Nick Pivetta. San Diego soon answered, though, as Xander Bogaerts helped tie the game before Sheets delivered the defining swing. Kevin Gausman allowed three runs over 3â…“ innings, while the Cubs managed only two hits after Pivetta departed.
