New York and San Diego delivered shutouts, while Atlanta and Chicago used late-inning pressure to seize their Wild Card Series openers.

Philadelphia carried a 3-2 advantage into the inning. However, Michael Harris II singled, Ozzie Albies was hit by a pitch and Riley drove Jhoan Duran’s first offering into the right-center seats. Earlier, Mike Yastrzemski tied the game in the second, while Chris Sale and Jesús Luzardo kept the contest close.
Finally, Raisel Iglesias worked around a leadoff single in the ninth. The Braves now lead the best-of-three series 1-0.

Chicago White Sox 6, Houston Astros 3
Chicago built an early five-run lead and then survived Houston’s comeback attempt to win its first postseason game since 2021.
Sam Antonacci drove in two runs, while Colson Montgomery homered and Munetaka Murakami contributed an RBI sacrifice fly. Meanwhile, opener Hagen Smith gave the White Sox three scoreless innings before Jordan Hicks secured four outs in relief.
Houston cut the deficit with Nelson Velázquez’s pinch-hit, two-run homer in the fifth. Nevertheless, Grant Taylor recorded a seven-out save, placing the AL West champions one loss from elimination.

Cam Schlittler struck out 10 over 6â…“ scoreless innings, and Ben Rice homered twice with six RBIs as New York dominated its rival at Yankee Stadium.
The Yankees led only 2-0 through six innings. Then Rice homered in the seventh before New York erupted for five runs in the eighth. Austin Wells also delivered an RBI single, while Schlittler limited Boston to two hits and one walk.
Moreover, New York completed the shutout without Aaron Judge, who was left off the series roster with a calf injury. The Yankees lead the AL Wild Card Series 1-0.

San Diego Padres 8, Chicago Cubs 0
Michael King allowed one hit over seven scoreless innings, while Fernando Tatis Jr., Manny Machado and Xander Bogaerts all homered in San Diego’s emphatic Game 1 victory.
Tatis and Machado went deep in the first inning against Matthew Boyd. Machado later doubled home another run, and Bogaerts homered in the fourth. Next, Jackson Merrill drove in two during a three-run fifth.
San Diego finished with 13 hits. Meanwhile, Yuki Matsui and Joe Musgrove completed the shutout, with Musgrove making his first major-league appearance since October 2024. The Padres now lead the series 1-0.
