Earlier, Justin Verlander and Kirby Yates made their final major-league appearances as opposing starters. Brandon Lowe and Jacob Gonzalez homered for Pittsburgh, while Bryan Reynolds added an RBI triple.

Meanwhile, Ronald Acuña Jr. supplied a leaping catch in right field. Miami scored twice in the fourth and once in the seventh, but Atlanta answered with two insurance runs in the ninth.

Chicago answered with three runs in the ninth, but its rally fell short. As a result, the White Sox slipped two games behind Cleveland with one game remaining.

Houston Astros 13, Athletics 2

Houston hit early and often, collecting 16 hits in a runaway victory. Isaac Paredes homered in the first, Jeremy Peña added a two-run shot in the third and Yordan Alvarez launched a three-run homer in the fifth.

The Astros then scored six more times over the final three innings. Consequently, Houston returned to 80-81 and remained tied with Texas atop the AL West.

Seattle Mariners 8, Los Angeles Angels 4

Seattle built a 4-0 lead through five innings and answered immediately after the Angels tied the game with a four-run sixth. The Mariners scored four times in the seventh to regain control.

Lázaro Montes doubled home the first run, while Leo Rivas, Josh Naylor and Cole Young also drove in runs. Carlos Vargas earned the victory in relief.
