Golden State Valkyries 89, Connecticut Sun 64

UNCASVILLE, Conn. — Golden State continued its impressive late-season surge Wednesday, dominating Connecticut 89-64 for its second consecutive victory.

Janelle Salaün scored 15 points and knocked down four 3-pointers, while Kaila Charles contributed 14 points. Veronica Burton finished with 12 points and seven assists, and Kaitlyn Chen added 10 as the Valkyries received production throughout their rotation.

Golden State took command almost immediately, leading 26-11 after the first quarter before delivering the decisive blow late in the second.

The Valkyries closed the first half with a 14-0 run, sending Connecticut into halftime trailing 55-27. The Sun went scoreless over the final 3:51 of the half and made only nine of their first 33 field-goal attempts.

Golden State eventually stretched its advantage to 35 points during the fourth quarter.

The Valkyries shot 54 percent from the field and 40 percent from 3-point range while holding Connecticut to only 31 percent shooting.

Perhaps the most impressive number came from Golden State’s reserves. The Valkyries received a franchise-record 54 bench points, highlighting the depth of a team preparing for the postseason.

Golden State improved to 27-11, while Connecticut dropped to 10-28.

Turning Point: Golden State’s 14-0 run to close the first half. What had already been a comfortable advantage became a 28-point halftime lead, effectively putting the game away before the third quarter began.

Star of the Game: Janelle Salaün, Golden State — 15 points and four 3-pointers. Salaün led an exceptionally balanced Valkyries attack in a game where Golden State’s depth was the biggest story.

Seattle Storm 90, Toronto Tempo 78

SEATTLE — Flau’jae Johnson scored 20 points and Seattle pulled away during the second half to defeat Toronto 90-78, giving the Storm a badly needed victory late in the 2026 WNBA season.

Johnson shot 9-of-15 from the field, while Dominique Malonga added 18 points and seven rebounds. Jade Melbourne contributed an excellent all-around performance with 16 points, six rebounds and seven assists.

The victory improved Seattle to 8-31 and provided a welcome bright spot for a Storm team that had lost 14 of its previous 15 games.

Toronto entered severely short-handed. The Tempo played without their three leading scorers — Marina Mabrey, Brittney Sykes and Nyara Sabally — because of injuries.

Rookie Kiki Rice responded with a season-high 24 points for Toronto, while Isabelle Harrison recorded a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds.

The game remained competitive through most of three quarters.

Seattle finally created separation by closing the third period on an 11-4 run, taking a 64-61 advantage into the fourth. The Storm then opened the final quarter with a 9-2 run, stretching their lead to 10.

Toronto never recovered.

Seattle finished with 25 assists and shot 44.3 percent from the field, compared with Toronto’s 37.1 percent. The Tempo struggled especially from long range, making only 4 of 26 3-point attempts.

Toronto fell to 11-27.

Turning Point: Seattle’s surge spanning the end of the third and beginning of the fourth quarters. The Storm followed an 11-4 closing run in the third with a 9-2 burst to start the fourth, turning a close contest into a double-digit advantage.

Star of the Game: Flau’jae Johnson, Seattle — 20 points on 9-of-15 shooting. Johnson provided the scoring punch Seattle needed to snap another difficult stretch.

2026 WNBA Playoff Race

The eight-team WNBA playoff field has already been determined, but playoff seeding remains very much in play.

Minnesota continues to hold the league’s best record at 31-8, but Golden State has moved to 27-11 after consecutive impressive road victories over Minnesota and Connecticut.
