NEW YORK — Golden State’s defense continues to look postseason-ready.

The Valkyries smothered the Liberty 79-60 at Barclays Center, winning their third consecutive game and completing a 3-0 season sweep of New York.

Cecilia Zandalasini led Golden State with 20 points and five rebounds, scoring 14 before halftime. Gabby Williams added 16 points, while Tiffany Hayes supplied 12 off the bench.

But Veronica Burton may have delivered the night’s most impressive performance.

Burton recorded a season-high 13 assists without committing a turnover, adding eight points while finishing plus-17 in 27 minutes.

Golden State created separation during the second quarter, outscoring New York 21-11 and carrying a 12-point advantage into halftime. The Valkyries maintained control after the break and eventually pushed the margin to 19.

New York simply couldn’t solve Golden State’s defense.

The Liberty shot just 30.2 percent from the field and went 7-for-31 from 3-point range. Their 60 points represented a season low and ended a franchise-record streak of 16 consecutive games with at least 80 points.

Jonquel Jones led New York with 18 points and seven rebounds, while Breanna Stewart scored 16.

Golden State improved to 28-11, while New York fell to 23-16.

The Valkyries also became the only WNBA team New York failed to defeat during the 2026 regular-season series.

Turning Point: Golden State’s second quarter. The Valkyries outscored New York 21-11, transforming a competitive game into a double-digit advantage that the Liberty never seriously threatened.

Star of the Game: Cecilia Zandalasini, Golden State — 20 points and five rebounds. Zandalasini led all scorers and helped Golden State establish control before halftime.

Washington Mystics 80, Phoenix Mercury 73

PHOENIX — Georgia Amoore picked the perfect time for the best game of her young WNBA career.

Amoore scored a career-high 25 points, including an incredible 16 in the fourth quarter, as Washington rallied from a double-digit deficit to defeat Phoenix 80-73.

The Mystics trailed 63-53 with 8:17 remaining, but the game changed almost instantly.

Washington unleashed a 17-2 run, transforming the 10-point deficit into a 70-65 advantage.

Amoore then delivered the knockout punches.

The rookie buried 3-pointers on consecutive possessions late in the fourth quarter, pushing Washington ahead 78-73 with 1:18 remaining. Betnijah Laney-Hamilton added two late free throws to finish the comeback.

Amoore made a career-high six 3-pointers while adding four assists.

Kiki Iriafen provided another major performance for Washington, finishing with 20 points and 12 rebounds for her 19th double-double of the season. Shakira Austin added 11 points.

Phoenix received a monster scoring night from Kahleah Copper, who poured in 35 points on 13-of-22 shooting.

Copper also reached a franchise milestone, becoming the fastest player in Mercury history to score 2,000 points with the franchise. She reached the mark in 103 games, one fewer than Diana Taurasi and Cappie Pondexter needed.

It still wasn’t enough.

Washington shot 47.5 percent from the field and 41.2 percent from 3-point range, compared with Phoenix’s 40.9 percent overall and 29.4 percent from beyond the arc.

The Mystics improved to 24-15, while Phoenix fell to 13-26.

Combined with New York’s loss earlier Thursday, Washington moved ahead of the Liberty into sixth place in the WNBA standings.

Turning Point: Washington’s 17-2 fourth-quarter run. The Mystics went from trailing by 10 with 8:17 remaining to leading by five, completely flipping the game in a matter of minutes.

Star of the Game: Georgia Amoore, Washington — career-high 25 points, six 3-pointers and four assists. Amoore scored 16 points in the fourth quarter and hit consecutive late threes to finish off the comeback.

2026 WNBA Playoff Picture

The eight-team 2026 WNBA playoff field is already set, but Thursday’s results added more intrigue to the battle for postseason positioning.

Golden State strengthened its grip on the No. 2 position by improving to 28-11, continuing an impressive late-season stretch that has included victories over Minnesota, Connecticut and New York.

Washington’s comeback carried significant seeding implications as well. The Mystics improved to 24-15, moving ahead of New York after the Liberty fell to 23-16.

The eight playoff teams are Minnesota, Golden State, Las Vegas, Atlanta, Indiana, Washington, New York and Dallas.
