Friday College Football Results: No. 23 Missouri Wins Border War as Ranked ACC Teams Roll

Friday college football results from September 11 featured five FBS games, including a rivalry victory for No. 23 Missouri and commanding performances from No. 24 Louisville, No. 25 Virginia and NC State.

Missouri broke open a halftime tie to defeat Kansas 38-21 in the Border War. Elsewhere, Boston College held off Rutgers 28-21, while NC State, Louisville and Virginia outscored their FCS opponents by a combined 191-16.

No. 23 Missouri 38, Kansas 21

No. 23 Missouri used two crucial second-half takeaways and a balanced offensive performance to defeat Kansas 38-21 in Lawrence, extending the Tigers’ Border War winning streak to five games.

The rivals entered halftime tied at 14, but Missouri seized control during a decisive third-quarter sequence. Austin Simmons connected with Donovan Olugbode for an 8-yard touchdown, and linebacker Robert Woodyard Jr. forced turnovers on consecutive Kansas possessions. The Tigers converted the second takeaway into a 10-yard Xai’Shaun Edwards touchdown run, building a 28-14 advantage.

Kansas responded with an 83-yard touchdown drive, cutting the deficit to seven, but Missouri shut out the Jayhawks in the fourth quarter. Blake Craig kicked a 32-yard field goal before Simmons found Brett Norfleet for a 13-yard touchdown that completed the scoring.

Simmons finished with 292 passing yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. Jamal Roberts rushed for 125 yards, including a 64-yard touchdown, while Olugbode recorded 121 receiving yards. Missouri outgained Kansas 469-255 and limited the Jayhawks to 81 rushing yards.

Kansas quarterback Isaiah Marshall passed for 168 yards and two touchdowns but threw two interceptions. The Jayhawks also lost a fumble and committed 11 penalties for 89 yards.

Turning point: Woodyard’s back-to-back forced turnovers helped Missouri turn a 14-14 game into a 28-14 advantage.

Boston College 28, Rutgers 21

Boston College intercepted Rutgers quarterback AJ Surace four times and survived a second-half rally to earn a 28-21 home victory.

The Eagles immediately established control after stopping Rutgers on fourth down during the opening possession. Evan Dickens turned the favorable field position into a 19-yard touchdown run, and quarterback Mason McKenzie later scrambled 10 yards for another score.

Boston College carried a 20-7 advantage into halftime, but turnovers prevented the Eagles from putting the game away. Rutgers remained within striking distance and cut the deficit to 28-21 when Surace connected with KJ Duff for a 60-yard touchdown.

The Scarlet Knights received additional opportunities after McKenzie threw a late interception, but Boston College defensive back Anthony Palano recorded two fourth-quarter interceptions to extinguish the comeback.

McKenzie passed for 252 yards and one touchdown while adding 94 rushing yards and a score. Dawson Pough recorded 106 receiving yards and one touchdown. Rutgers running back Antwan Raymond rushed for 134 yards, while Duff produced 137 receiving yards and two scores.

Surace passed for 230 yards and three touchdowns, but his four interceptions ultimately outweighed those productive numbers.

Turning point: Palano’s fourth-quarter interceptions stopped Rutgers from completing its comeback after pulling within seven points.

Star of the Game: Mason McKenzie, Boston College — 252 passing yards, 94 rushing yards and two total touchdowns.

NC State 73, Richmond 0

NC State scored 49 first-half points, accumulated 734 total yards and overwhelmed Richmond 73-0 at Carter-Finley Stadium.

The Wolfpack scored three touchdowns in the opening quarter and added four more during the second. Duke Scott supplied the early fireworks with a 65-yard touchdown run before adding another score later in the quarter.

Starting quarterback CJ Bailey completed 13 of 17 passes for 281 yards and one touchdown. He also scored on a 1-yard run before leaving the game with NC State holding a commanding advantage. Scott rushed for 128 yards on only nine carries, while Keenan Jackson led the receivers with 123 yards.

NC State rushed for 428 yards, averaged 9.5 yards per carry and scored eight rushing touchdowns. The Wolfpack converted eight of 10 third downs, produced 31 first downs and scored on all eight red-zone opportunities.

Richmond managed only 110 total yards, including 34 rushing yards, and converted two of 13 third-down attempts. The Spiders punted nine times and never reached the red zone.

The teams agreed to shorten the fourth quarter to 10 minutes because of the lopsided score.

Turning point: Scott’s 65-yard touchdown on NC State’s second possession created a 14-0 lead and confirmed the enormous difference between the teams.

Star of the Game: Duke Scott, NC State — 128 rushing yards and two touchdowns on nine carries.

No. 24 Louisville 59, Villanova 13

No. 24 Louisville recovered from a sluggish opening quarter and amassed 635 yards of offense in a 59-13 rout of Villanova.

Quarterback Lincoln Kienholz delivered the breakout performance Louisville needed after its season-opening loss to No. 9 Ole Miss. Kienholz passed for 332 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for two more scores.

Lawayne McCoy caught three passes for 102 yards and a touchdown. Tre Richardson collected seven receptions for 98 yards, while Jaleel Skinner added 82 receiving yards and a score. Marquise Davis scored twice on the ground, and Braxton Jennings contributed both a rushing and receiving touchdown.

Louisville accumulated 260 rushing yards and displayed impressive offensive depth, although the Cardinals still committed seven penalties for 90 yards. Their secondary also surrendered a 65-yard Villanova touchdown, leaving areas to address before an important game against No. 17 SMU.

Villanova quarterback Pat McQuaide completed 18 of 31 passes for 166 yards and one touchdown. The Wildcats finished with only 253 total yards.

Turning point: Kienholz escaped pressure and scored on a 19-yard run late in the first quarter, beginning Louisville’s offensive avalanche.

Star of the Game: Lincoln Kienholz, No. 24 Louisville — 332 passing yards and four total touchdowns.

No. 25 Virginia 59, Norfolk State 3

No. 25 Virginia intercepted Norfolk State on its first two possessions and scored three first-quarter touchdowns on the way to a 59-3 victory in Charlottesville.

Brandyn Hillman returned his first interception 50 yards, providing Virginia with a short field. Beau Pribula converted the opportunity by finding Jacquon Gibson for a 6-yard touchdown on fourth-and-2.

Hillman intercepted Deljay Bailey again on Norfolk State’s following possession. Pribula responded with a 27-yard touchdown pass to Da’Shawn Martin. Gibson later turned a short completion into a 30-yard touchdown, giving Virginia a 21-0 lead before the first quarter ended.

Pribula completed 12 of 14 passes for 162 yards and three touchdowns before sitting out the second half. Backup Eli Holstein threw two touchdown passes, while Xay Davis rushed for 107 yards on 13 carries.

Virginia kicker Will Bettridge became the program’s career scoring leader by making a 30-yard field goal and seven extra points. Linebacker Justin Rowe completed the rout with a 50-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Virginia outgained Norfolk State 466-223. Bailey finished with 142 passing yards and two interceptions for the Spartans.

Turning point: Hillman’s two interceptions on Norfolk State’s opening possessions helped Virginia establish an immediate 14-0 lead.

Star of the Game: Beau Pribula, No. 25 Virginia — 12-of-14 passing, 162 yards and three first-quarter touchdowns.

Friday College Football Results Strengthen ACC’s Ranked Teams

The Friday college football results delivered three emphatic ACC victories. No. 24 Louisville and No. 25 Virginia handled their FCS opponents, while Boston College secured a needed win against a Big Ten opponent.

NC State also rebounded convincingly, although Richmond offered little meaningful resistance. The Wolfpack’s 734 yards and eight rushing touchdowns nevertheless provided an opportunity to rebuild confidence following a difficult opener.

The night’s most consequential outcome belonged to No. 23 Missouri. The Tigers dominated Kansas statistically, protected the football and responded to every Jayhawks challenge. Missouri’s second-half defense ultimately transformed a competitive rivalry game into a comfortable 17-point victory.
